Thankful Honey Bear with WPlus9

Handmade Cards, Seven Hills Crafts DT
Honey Bears (WPlus9)

Morning, crafty friends. Autumn has definitely arrived in the form of foggy mornings and chill winds here in the UK this last week. Blink once and it will be Halloween. Blink a few more times and it will be Christmas already. I don’t know whether I should panic or start planning my gifts! Can you believe today’s post marks a full month since I joined the Seven Hills Crafts Design Team? I can’t, but I’m having a blast!

I’m really liking the clean and simple (CAS) look recently and when I needed a thank you card for a friend I challenged myself to maximise the white space. Plus, I’ve been waiting to use these cute little WPlus9 bears for a while now.

I started out with a side folding white A6 card base and used the MFT Square Peek-A-Boo Window Dienamic to die cut a window in the front of the card. With the square that was left over, I blended on some Salty Ocean Distress Ink and spritzed with some Shimmer Spray to get a sparkly sheen.

With the panel prepared and the background set to dry, I stamped out the bears and two branches from the WPlus9 Forest Friends and Curious Forest Friends sets in some Copic friendly MFT Licorice Black Hybrid Ink. I used two different tones of browns – the E50s and E40s – to differentiate between the warm bears and the branches of the trees, some greens for the leaves and some YRs for the honey. This was something I learnt from Sandy Allnock – the warmer colours automatically move to the foreground whilst the cooler colours fade to the back. I fussy cut them all out and went around the edges with a black marker to cover any cutting imperfections.

I wanted to give the impression of a window in the front of the card so I adhered the blue background square to the back inside panel inline with the die cut window in the front panel and put the bear holding the honey in the bottom left corner. Arranging the branches so they stretched out across the open window and met in the middle, I then adhered the cute little bear reaching down for his share of the honey.

A few touches with a black gel pen to the bear eyes and noses, a layer of clear Wink of Stella and a crisp black sentiment from the set finishes off the card nicely.

Thanks for reading, happy autumn!

Birthday Parade with Winnie & Walter

Birthday Parade (Winnie & Walter)

I’m on the Seven Hills Crafts Blog today keeping it simple with a one layer card featuring Winnie & Walter’s Party On stamp set. I’ve been getting back into practicing with my Copic markers so I really wanted the colouring to shine through on this one. Besides, who doesn’t deserve a birthday parade of musical animals on their special day?

Birthday Parade (Winnie & Walter)

I started out by stamping all four of the musical animals in the set onto an A6 side folding white card base using some MFT Black Licorice Hybrid Ink, stamping the two outer animals first and masking them off to give the impression that they are in front of the others. I then masked off the ground just above their feet and blended on some turquoise ink in a gradient, before reversing the mask and inking on some brown to ground the animals. To give that added bit of texture I flicked on some clean water and dabbed the drops off with some kitchen towel.

Once dry I removed the masks and coloured in the animal musicians with my alcohol markers. I kept to the same colour scheme of teals, browns, reds and warm grays and then added a layer of Clear Wink of Stella over the animals. To give some more movement to the card, I stamped out several of the musical notes included in the set in some teal ink. To finish off, I stamped the sentiment in black ink underneath the musical parade.

Cute little birthday parade! Which animal is your favourite? I love foxes and I used to play the flute so I’m picking little Mr Fox on the end there.

Merry and Bright with Winnie & Walter

Merry and Bright (Winnie & Walter)

Each year, Christmas always comes upon me in a rush and I find myself dedicating one weekend sometime around November to pumping out at least fifty Christmas cards. This year I am determined to be more organised and so I am starting early! I’m on the Seven Hills Crafts Blog this week with this card featuring the Happy Owlidays set from Winnie & Walter. It’s a very simple design that can be replicated very easily. In fact, I made several at once and made a good start to my Christmas card supply!

Merry and Bright (Winnie & Walter)

I started with an A6 card base of Clare Fontane 300gsm DCP paper. I used my MISTI to stamp both the dove and the sentiment from the Happy Owlidays set in some MFT Black Licorice Hybrid Ink. I used four different Copic markers in shades of cool grey and orange to colour in the dove before covering the whole bird in some Nuvo Crystal Glaze. I wanted a strong background without the hassle of keeping in the lines and the glazed area will resist any non-permanent ink. Once completely dry (I left overnight) I blended on some Salty Ocean Distress Ink, focusing it so that it is was brightest around the edges of the bird. After buffing off the ink trapped on the glaze, I added a trio of Crystal Clear Sequins.

Simple, elegant and very easy to reproduce!

Rainbow Birthday Hugs with HeffyDoodle

Handmade Cards
Unbearable Birthday (HeffyDoodle)

The Unbearable Without You set is my second favourite set from the new HeffyDoodle release. Paired with a rainbow and some clouds, I think it makes a bright and colourful birthday card!

I stamped the adorable bear and the clouds onto some ClareFontane 210gsm DCP Paper using some Copic friendly MFT Black Licorice Hybrid Ink. I coloured them in using some E30/50 Copic markers and die cut them with the coordinating dies. I used the Rainbow dies from Paper Smooches to cut out a rainbow and again used some Copics in rainbow shades to colour in the rainbow stripes.

On a top folding A6 card base I blended some Distress Oxide ink in Broken China in the top two thirds. I then adhered the die cuts over the background with some liquid glue, stamped a sentiment from the set and covered the pieces in some Wink of Stella.

Clean, simple, but sure to put a smile on any recipient’s face!
