Showcasing… Series: Mama Elephant Winter Wonderland

Handmade Cards
Winter Wonderland (Mama Elephant)

This post will be the first in my Showcasing… Series where I will take one of the stamp sets I own, find some of the amazing cards other makers have created using the set and then create a set of cards of my own. The first set I would like to Showcase is the Mama Elephant Winter Wonderland set. Even if it is only April, I have to start early on my Christmas stash! I fell in love with this set after seeing some of the truly amazing cards created using the stamps, especially with the sillouette birch trees and deer. One of the first ever dies I purchased was the Memory Box Deer Trio and this set made me remember old times! This is an older set by Mama Elephant (SHC), released back in October 2013 I think, and has coordinating dies available (SHC).

The first card I found was this one from Nicole Spohr (blog post and video). I love the stark white embossing against the inked background – it gives a wonderful effect! I loved this one so much that I recreated this card with a few minor changes. I choose two colour variations, one using Faded Jeans and Chipped Sapphire, the other using Peacock Feathers, Blueprint Sketch and Faded Jeans. I mounted them on black card and used white heat embossing on black sentiment banners.

Another card using this stamp set was created by Yaneia (blog post, video tutorial). I love how she wasn’t restricted by the traditional colours on her cards and got some gorgeous results with some pretty cheap watercolour paints.

To recreate this card in my own way I used three different colours from my Kuretaki Gansai Tambi watercolours after I had heat embossed and masked my background. It took me a couple of layers to get the colour intensity I was looking for. I then used two different Lawn Fawn inks to stamp and clear heat emboss my sentiment in the bottom corner.

A great start to my Christmas card stash, I think!
