MFT I’m Owl Yours – One Stamp Set, Many Cards!

MFT Owls - Distress Oxides vs Distress Inks

I saw the technique showcased in this next set of cards in one of Vicky Papaioannou’s videos. It was so simple and I’d just got my Distress Oxides, so I thought I’d have a bit of a play. I don’t have the stamp set she used but I do have the older MFT I’m Owl Yours set which worked perfectly. As it turns out it was a good chance to see what the differences are between Distress Inks and Distress Oxides. I also managed to add about 20 cards to my stash.

I started out by stamping out several sets of six owls in the MFT I’m Owl Yours stamp set in MFT Black Hybrid Ink on some Bristol Smooth Cardstock and Neenah Desert Storm. I then took some Glossy Accents, coloured in the open eyes of the owls and left to completely dry. I then took out my Distress Inks and Distress Oxides and, using at least two shades on every owl, inked in the owls. I have more Distress Inks and only 7 of the Distress Oxides so you will see more depth in the colours for these. After they were dry, I then used my distress sprayer to spritz some water and activate the inks.

As you can see, the Distress Inks came out brighter and more vibrant.

The Distress Oxides were duller but have that fabulous chalky oxide look. It’s a shame that the colour seeped underneath the Glossy Accents (I think I need to try this with watercolour paper next time to see if it makes a difference) but I love how they turned out.

I then die cut all of the owls out with the coordinating dies. I managed to make about 20 cards, using up my cardstock scraps and some DIY black and white striped patterned paper.

I can’t decide which ones I like best, though I really do love the vibrancy of the Distress Inks. Which ones do you like?
